Here's some soul food for thought; In this country, as a result of me having worked for over 30 years and counting, and as a result of knowing the work history and stories of many of my friends, I have concluded that that white employers really do not want to hire black workers. They only hire us for one of 2 reasons; either they are forced to by anti-discrimination and quota laws, or because no white people will do the work.
Very few white employers hire black people because they REALLY want to. (The exception to this rule is in the areas of sports and entertainment)
For this topic, these jobs dont count because these jobs bring in billions of dollars for the white boss, so of course he or she is going to act like they love us and want to come to our house for dinner and a sleep over. Break your leg while scoring a touchdown or lose your singing voice during a recording session and you'll see just how much that white employer loves you. Do you think that white employers really want to hire us, or do think that they only want us for the reasons I stated above?
What can we do as black people to find and keep a job, that will pay us a wage that we can actually live on, when we are being looked at as a menace to white society?
Starting your own business is not a possible answer for this discussion because if every black person could start their own business, we would have all done it by now and black poverty would have been a thing of the past. I'm referring to the people with no college degrees and average skills who have to work for a living; these brothers and sisters are simply not going to have the abilities and resources necessary to start their own business. Lets keep it real now! some can, but most...its just not going to happen. Okay, start thinking and let me hear you!

`sure!our laws says that it is illegal to discriminate.but!white people don't have to discriminate against our people.they take themselves out of the job market,by getting prison records for drug selling, and use.we need our people to stop shooting themselves in the foot.by getting out to vote.and to stop taking themselves out of that market aswell.we are often time our own worst enemy.

`Black man has always had to work harder. We know this. I think that a lot of blacks fit a stereotype. I was once in charge of hiring at a company. I, on purpose, sifted through resume's seeking those who I thought were African American. I wanted to hire my own people. I was in a position to so why now. My bosses were white. Educated and White. Every Black person I brought in for an interview had a problem. The men would come in with gangsta braids, some with lent in their hair and others just did not know how to conduct themselves on an interview. The Black woment were ghetto. They came in dressed professionally but did not know how to speak. They were fine, too. At one point I ended up hiring a Black girl and a White girl. They both were good looking. Black girl did not know how to do her job no matter how much training she had. The White girl was cool but come to find out she was on meth. Drug test were administered upon hire. I can truly say that it is kinda tough to find a Black person presentable enough to hire at times. I am from Compton, California, originally so I know what's up. I tried to help us.

Generally speaking people hire what they know and are comfortable around. Whites will first hire whites, Asians will hire Asians, Af-Ams/Af-Ams, and on and on. We're all biased to some degree.
But there is another mentality in play. The desire to grow a business will allow a more qualified person to be considered over a lesser same-race candidate. In the end green is often the deciding color.
As to self-employment. Anyone can start a business at anytime. It's not easy though and many people simply aren't cut out for the challenge. Race or current financial standing isn't as relevant as it seems.
