I'm a black woman who celebrates black manhood As my title suggests, I've had generally good experiences with the black men in my life. My dad has proven to be supportive of me almost to the point of being considered more of a friend than a parent. Also, my closest friend is a black male. I was raised to be proud of my culture and/or my ancestry. African Americans are survivors. We're tough. But it is in our interest to have someone before whom we know we can let down our guards. This level of trust is, of course, possible (and beautiful) with individuals of all other races when they a) truly care about you, and b) truly listen to you. However, it is uniquely sweet/touching (IMHO) when African Americans can find that combination with each other. I thus will always remain open to such a possibility.
